In the fourth grade I was asked if I was named after Carly Shay, the main character of the popular show iCarly. I knew I wasn’t, but to make sure I looked up when the show came out, and sure enough it came out seven years after I was born. I had always felt like my name was on the less common side, I never thought there were going to be songs with my name as the title or anything like that, so I thought it was pretty cool when there was a show where the main character had my name. I then used the title of the show as the title of every icebreaker project I had, so it only feels fitting to use it as the title of my first ever blog post. So let’s break the ice, I’m Carly Brockman.

Some things to know about me. I’m a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill studying Advertising and Public Relations at the Hussman School of Journalism with a double major in Media Production. I consider myself an extroverted introvert, which is basically to say that when I’m around people I’m comfortable with I’m very social but when I’m in larger settings with people who I don’t know as well I get considerably less talkative. I am almost always listening to music if I’m by myself. I’m one of those people who gets excited when I discover a new song and will play it on loop because I can’t get enough of it. I tend to not work well in silence, if I’m alone I will listen to music or put on a show in the background, and I always enjoy being productive in the company of my friends. I love to bullet journal, and there will likely be blog posts where I talk about that more in the future because it is a huge stress reliever for me as well as the main way I organize my life.

I saved arguably the most memorable thing about me for last, I have done competitive jump rope for most of my life. To answer the first two questions I tend to get asked, it is kinda like the movie Jump In, but not exactly, and yes I can do double dutch. I love jump rope and have been doing it for over 10 years, the majority of this time as a member of the Super Skippers where I traveled around the country to compete against jumpers from around the world. Since starting college I’ve been a member of Carolina Jump Rope, and I’m currently the president of the club. I could talk about jump rope for hours on end, so expect to hear more about that from me in the future as well.

I’m super excited for this blog, and can’t wait to show more of what inspires me. When thinking about what I wanted from this blog, I was torn on if I wanted it to have a theme. At first that seemed to be the route that made the most sense, but I couldn’t narrow it down to just one thing. I decided to just make this blog a place for anything that I could talk about nonstop, anything that is a passion of mine, anything that gets me excited or makes me happy. Hopefully the things that inspire and excite me can do the same for you too, so follow along and learn more about me!
